This presentation aims to recognize and broaden understanding of the unique experience of gender diverse autistic young people. It will review existing research and relevant literature to broaden understanding of gender diversity in the context of autism. Parents and caregivers will come away from this presentation with greater sensitivity and confidence to support the unique challenges that gender diverse autistic young people face.
As we know, Autism is a spectrum and the needs and outcomes of individuals with Autism across the spectrum vary greatly.
Let's "give voice to" the severe end of the spectrum:
Following referral for special education services, functional behavior assessments (FBA) are included in the initial steps of the evaluation process in order to obtain an individualized education plan (IEP). FBAs can be a crucial component of the assessment process for children experiencing challenging behaviors that interfere with their learning and safety. This workshop will introduce the components of a quality FBA and review how to use that information to implement the most appropriate and effective strategies.
This presentation will focus on the different diagnostic evaluations available to diagnose ASD. Dr. Gorenstein will discuss what parents should look for when seeking a independent evaluation for his or her child and provide and overview of what types of evaluations are needed to access services.
