Empowered Parenting: Raising a Preschooler with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Metropolitan Parent Center and Ramapo Present:
You will leave this 4-part workshop series with “Toolbox” of strategies to:

•          Maintain a strong connection with your child
•          Set reasonable limits and expectations
•          Address sensory needs at home and in the community
•          Reduce personal and familial stress
•          Respond to conflicts that arise at home

This workshop is geared towards parents and caregivers of children under the age of five who have recently received a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or are in the process of having their child evaluated. Participants will discuss the early signs of ASD, and the distinct challenges the diagnosis can present for families as they learn to adjust, adapt, and become advocates for their children.

Through hands-on experiential activities, reflection questions, case studies and role-plays, participants will develop and practice techniques for meeting their child’s unique needs, and for teaching skills to strengthen your child's social emotional development.

Crianza Capacitada: Criando un hijo pre-escolar con “Trastornos del Espectro Autista” TEA

Esta serie ofrecerá de 4 talleres con una de “Caja de Herramientas” de técnicas para:

•          mantener una fuerte conexión con su hijo
•          establecer límites y expectativas
•          manejar las necesidades sensoriales del niño(a) en el hogar y en la comunidad
•          reducir el estrés personal y familiar
•          Responder a los conflictos que se presentan en el hogar

Este taller es dirigido a padres y cuidadores de niños menores de cuatro años de edad que recién han recibido el diagnóstico de “Trastorno del Espectro Autista, TEA” (ASD por sus siglas en inglés) o que están en el proceso de ser evaluados.

Los participantes examinarán los signos tempranos de TEA y los desafíos particulares que este diagnóstico puede representar para las familias a medida que aprenden a ajustarse, adaptarse y convertirse en abogados para sus hijos en el sistema.

Mediante actividades prácticas y experimentales, preguntas de reflexión, estudios de casos y juegos de roles, los participantes desarrollarán y pondrán en práctica técnicas para satisfacer las necesidades individuales/únicas y para enseñar habilidades  que sirven a fortalecer el desarrollo socio/emocional.
