Position: Autism Initiative Coordinator.
Department: Metropolitan Parent Center, Autism Initiative Project.
Reports to: Program Director.
Compensation: $45,000- $55,000
 
Introductory Period: Three months as per agency policy and procedure. 
 
Scope of Position: As the Autism Initiative Coordinator, you will be the heartbeat of our programs, providing invaluable resources and support to parents of autistic children and youth. From coordinating virtual after-school art programs and support groups to overseeing hybrid social skills programs for teenagers, your role is pivotal in enriching the lives of many.

General Responsibilities: 

  • In collaboration with the parent center Education & Training director, arrange and coordinate logistics of workshops for parents that are related to ASD and special education. This collaboration includes scheduling, outreach, and arrange for translation/interpretation services.
  • In conjunction with subcontractors, coordinate the implementation of curriculum for the Integrated Transition Program, a hybrid social skills program aimed at autistic youth, set program dates, develop outreach campaigns, recruit participants, and provide case management for 6 to 15 participants annually.
  • Arrange and facilitate bi-monthly support group for Spanish speaking parents that are related to Autism and special education.
  • Arrange and coordinate logistic for three annual in person recreational activities.
  • If needed, provided support to individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families, who are participating in the recreational activities.

 
Skills: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Independent judgment when responding to inquiries.
  • Passionate about working with families of individuals with intellectual and /or developmental disabilities

 
Educational/ Other Requirements:

  • Candidates with an associate degree are eligible, although possessing a bachelor's degree is preferable.
  • Combination of education and similar job experience.
  • Experience working or raising a person with developmental and/or intellectual and disability is desired.
  • Bilingual:  English and Spanish .
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams).
  • Preferred: Experience navigating social services, OPWDD and special education
  • Preferred: Knowledge about Salesforce database.

Community Habilitation Specialist
Community Habilitation is focused on giving individuals the personal, social, and vocational support needed to live in their community. As the Community Habilitation Specialist, you will assist individuals with developmental disabilities to become more independent when performing activities of daily living or implementing their individualized service plans in order to achieve their valued outcomes. The position is part-time and requires a bilingual Spanish-speaking candidate for shifts in areas around Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens.

In-home Respite
The In-home respite support worker is responsible for teaching and providing personal care assistance to persons with developmental disabilities. As a part-time caregiver, you will be tasked with providing meaningful interaction by engaging in various activities for the client and providing protective supervision for the family. As a requirement, you must be a bilingual Spanish-speaking candidate.  The coverage areas are around Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens for now
