Sinergia is a non-profit agency which provides services, housing and advocacy for people with disabilities from the diverse communities of the Bronx, Northern Manhattan and similar neighborhoods throughout the city. For 40 years, Sinergia has been providing multicultural services to individuals and families whose complex needs go beyond disability-related services, to include homelessness, housing insecurity, immigration status, unemployment and poverty, and discrimination based on disability, race, language status or sexual orientation/gender identity. We operate a range of programs designed to meet the needs of individuals of all ages – and their families – as identified by them when they come through our doors. Some of these services, such as eviction prevention and housing advocacy, parenting skills training and support for parents with developmental disabilities, supports and services for individuals not eligible for Medicaid, and bilingual/multicultural autism services, are unique for a disability-focused agency and vital to an underserved and vulnerable population.
Sinergia has survived for four decades because of the dedication of its staff and the loyalty of the families it serves. Today, we are preparing for new challenges, as the disability service systems transition to a managed care environment. We remain steadfast in our determination that as government priorities and policies change, we will continue to insist that the human service delivery systems meet the needs of all individuals and families, regardless of background, income or social status, language or culture. Equity and inclusiveness are among our core values.
We will be celebrating our 40th anniversary with a gala on November 8, 2018. As we age, so do the individuals we serve, and there is a growing population of people with disabilities whose needs are changing as they become senior citizens. The money we fundraise from this event will be used to purchase an accessible vehicle to accommodate people participating in our daily programs, so that aging individuals with disabilities do not have to choose between arduous travel on public transportation and loss of mobility and community integration.
Our gala is fast approaching, and we are asking for your support to help make this event the most successful one yet.
Any support, whether in the form of monetary or in-kind donations, will be greatly appreciated. We would also like to extend an invitation to all of you to attend our Gala, which will take place on November 8, 2018 at Maestro’s in the Bronx from 5-10 pm. Donations can be made in a variety of ways, buying a ticket or table to attend the gala or give the opportunity to attend to someone who otherwise couldn’t afford it, donating goods or services for auction, buying an ad in the program, sponsoring the event, or simply making an individual donation.
