This workshop provides essential tools to successfully navigate the special education system in NYC as to ensure that children with special needs receive the educational services to which they are entitled regardless of the type of school—public, charter, or private.
You will leave having a better understanding of 1) Special Education, the Concept, 2) IDEA & its 6 Guiding Principles, 3) the Special Education Process, 4) Charter & Private Schools, 5) 504 Plans, & 6) Advocacy Tips.
This workshop describes five ways parents and caregivers can support your children with their schoolwork at home, even though they may not be familiar with the content, methods, or the English language, and we will also discuss navigating relationships with school staff and other community members.

Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can often exhibit behaviors that may be challenging for parents, caretakers, and educators, including repetitive and restrictive behaviors. This presentation will discuss tips and techniques for understanding and managing a variety of challenging behaviors using evidence-based strategies for individuals of all ages.
We proudly present this year’s Sinergia’s Black History Month Presentation. The participants collaborated with our staff on many different projects including recreations of artwork by Rose Piper and Elizabeth Catlett. Oral presentations on Oprah, Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, and, Bob Marley. On display, Washington Carver and Madame CJ Walker. The participants worked all month-long learning about their black innovators.

70% of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have a co-occurring psychiatric diagnosis. In this talk, we will discuss three common co-morbid conditions: anxiety, depression, and ADHD. We will review how to identify potential symptoms, treatment approaches, and strategies for caregivers and care providers.
