This program will implement evidence-based strategies for self-determination and self-advocacy skills, components for the transition to adulthood, and community-based learning for ASD young adults and provides informational workshops for parents too.
Program Eligibility:
For Participants:
At this time, the program is designed for young adults between the ages of 14 and 21, who are:
-resident of the Bronx (we can accept up to 2 participants from other boroughs)
-who is not eligible for OPWDD services or OPWDD HCBS waiver programs or who is in the process of seeking eligibility for OPWDD services
-who is verbal
-who is able to be in a group setting with facilitator support
-who will attend entire group series (no more than 3 absences) and who are able to communicate in English.
For parent:
Parent should:
-be able to speak either English or Spanish or both
-attend entire group series (no more than 3 absences)
-provide IEP / evaluation to indicate diagnosis of child
-specify areas of strengths / challenges of child
-specify parental areas of needs / information
